Get REAL is a youth-focused, non-profit organization that energizes LGBTQ+ students and their allies to voice their stories. We accomplish this by offering inclusivity workshops and by providing leadership development through our university chapter and high school after-school programs.

Our inclusivity workshops break down stereotypes and prejudice in a friendly way. A diverse team of young, relatable speakers share real lived experiences with students and run interactive activities that promote compassion and understanding, impacting over 150,000 students across eight provinces and three states.

Get REAL’s university chapter program builds role models with leadership skills at 15 post-secondary institutions across Canada. Student leaders run awareness-based events, produce educational content for educators, and amplify their local impact through their 50/50 events, which raise funds for local LGBTQ+ charities.

The after-school program is a space where LGBTQ+ middle and high school students can learn together over the course of the school year while forming meaningful relationships with relatable mentors and like-minded peers. It’s a free program, created to fill a gap in services offered to LGBTQ+ youth and their allies. Through each of these sessions, students gain the tools necessary to create positive change in their schools and the confidence to put them into action. Public speaking, video production, and graphic design are among the skills learned at these programs. They increase students’ chances of success in the workplace while fostering active, positive participation in the community.

We are proud of the organization we have built but we could not have done it without the generous support of partners like Mediaplanet and we are honoured to be featured in this campaign. We’d like to wish everyone a safe and happy Pride.

Here’s to providing role models and support for LGBTQ+ youth and to opening minds and creating allies, one classroom at a time!
